Наречные обороты
Длинные наречные обороты, стоящие в начале предложений, как правило отделяются запятыми:
After many years as leader of the party, he retired gracefully
In order to get the best results from your computer, you must follow the instruction manual carefully
Just like all the other long time employees, she felt loyal to the company
Однословные наречия и короткие наречные обороты могут не отделяться запятыми, если после них не предусматривается короткая пауза в предложении:
Unfortunately the weather is bad
Slowly they crept to the fire
In order to punctuate well you have to feel a sentence’s rhythm
In 1971 they moved to Moscow
Toward the end of the year he began to act rather strange
Однако если необходима короткая пауза для выделения наречного оборота или для исключения неоднозначного понимания предложения в целом, запятые необходимы:
Unfortunately, the weather is bad
Generally, follow our advice about punctuation
Usually, quiet people are easier to work with
Если наречные обороты следуют за главным предложением, то они могут быть как ограничивающими (запятые не используются), так и неограничивающими (тогда они отделяются запятыми):
He retired gracefully after many years as leader of the party
You must follow the instruction manual carefully in order to get the best results from your computer
She felt loyal to the company, just like all the other long-time employees
The weather is bad, unfortunately
